Fortunately even a remapped V12 TDI will consume less than most American V8.
Funny fact : I did fill friday my A4 B7 with a 3.0 TDI with quattro (the first almost complete fill-up i did since i have the car) and it had a similar mileage to what i usually do in my A3 8L with a 1.8T FWD that is 500Kg lighter, around 15.5MPG (mostly small city comute, a little highway and a little curvy mountain roads).
It was 1.339€/L for the “Gasoil Ultimate” (which is about 3.78€/US Gallon which is 4.12USD/Gallon), the base diesel was around 1.25€/L if i recall correctly (which is about 3.53€/US Gallon which is 3.85USD/Gallon) and the SP98 Ultimate (equivalent to the US 93) was in the high 1.3 or in the 1.4 €/L (dont recall exactly) .
